Two-spotted ladybird (Adalia bipunctata) – biological aphid control

Pack size: 250 pcs, jar 250 ml

Adalia bipunctata, the two-spotted ladybird, is one of the most widespread ladybird species in Europe and North America. It is red and black, usually with two black spots on the elytra. It is an active predator feeding on aphids and other small pests, which is why it is used in biological plant protection.

Target pests

  • melon aphid (Aphis gossypii),
  • glasshouse-potato aphid (Aulacorthum solani),
  • potato aphid (Macrosiphum euphorbiae),
  • bird cherry-oat aphid (Rhopalosiphum padi),
  • green peach aphid (Myzus persicae).

Crops

Strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, melon, watermelon, aubergine, cucumber, pepper, rose and other crops.

Life cycle and development conditions

Development includes the egg, three larval instars, the pupa and the adult. The female lays eggs in groups of 10–40 on the underside of leaves, up to 500 eggs in total. Larval development takes 7–8 days, pupation about 2 days and the pupal stage 5–7 days. The optimum development temperature is about 15–25 °C.

Key advantages

  • high efficacy against various aphid species,
  • good adaptation to different climatic conditions,
  • can be used both in greenhouses and in the open field.

Application

The product is released directly onto infested leaves, into the pest colonies. In case of heavy infestation the beneficials are placed where aphid density is highest.

  • Preventive rate: 10–20 individuals/m².
  • Rate for controlling pest hotspots: 20–30 individuals/m².

Packaging and storage

Pack of 100 individuals. Keep away from direct sunlight, transport and store at 10–12 °C. Use within 18 hours of receipt.
