Steinernema feltiae
Pack size: 250 million nematodes (1 × 250 million)
Exhibitline sf contains the insect-pathogenic nematode Steinernema feltiae as infective juveniles. It controls fungus gnat (Sciaridae) larvae and Western flower thrips – the nematodes also attack thrips pupae in the soil, thrips larvae and adults on the plants, and even leafminers in the leaves. One application gives up to 6 weeks of protection against fungus gnat larvae. Harmless to plants, people, the environment and other beneficial insects. Produced by Bioline Agro Sciences.
Steinernema feltiae (Exhibitline sf) – entomopathogenic nematodes against fungus gnats and thrips
Pack size: 250 million nematodes (1 × 250 million)
Exhibitline sf contains the insect-pathogenic nematode Steinernema feltiae as infective juveniles. It helps control fungus gnat larvae and Western flower thrips in ornamental and vegetable crops.
Target pests
- fungus gnats (Sciaridae) – larvae,
- Western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis),
- onion thrips (Thrips tabaci),
- Echinothrips americanus,
- leafminers in the leaves.
Key features
- up to 6 weeks of protection from fungus gnat larvae after a single application,
- the nematodes also attack thrips pupae in the soil,
- they kill thrips larvae and adults,
- simple and safe to use – S. feltiae occurs naturally in soils,
- contact with the application solution is critical for efficacy, so the longer the crop stays wet, the better the result.
How it works
The nematodes actively seek out pest larvae by swimming in the thin film of water around soil particles. They locate hosts by detecting carbon dioxide and other waste products. Having found a larva, they invade it through natural body openings and inject symbiotic bacteria, which develop inside the insect – the pest dies of septicemia. Under optimum conditions death follows within 12–24 hours.
Application
- Soil temperature: minimum 14 °C, optimum 14–25 °C; above 30 °C the nematodes are harmed.
- Repeat at 7–14 day intervals.
- Growing media pH 3–8; the medium must be moist before and after application.
- Mix one 50 million pack with 115–190 l of water per 100 m².
- Apply in the evening just before sunset, or on a cloudy, rainy day.
Packaging and storage
The nematodes are supplied in an inert carrier in sealed trays – packs of 50 million, 250 million and 1,250 million. Store in a cool place, protect from direct sunlight, use as soon as possible after receipt.
